On behalf of her future husband…

December 8th, 2008 · 10 Comments · Parenting

I’ve spent the weekend reading the wonderful comments left by many of you on my Friday post. What great affirmation and encouragement you gave. Thank you! As new to blogging as I still am, I find myself in awe of this cyber-community. Online friendship may have limitations, but I’m finding it to be more rich [...]

This list has nothing to do with Christmas presents

December 5th, 2008 · 15 Comments · Learning to follow, My musings, Uncategorized

Hey Bloggy Friends! Long time no see. This week has been a crazy-busy. Plus I’ve been fighting off a downward spiral of self-doubt. You know those days when you feel inadequate at everything you do? Throughout the week, I’ve come up with a laundry list of areas where I’m clearly sub-par: I’ve felt like an [...]

The Secret Life of Mees

December 2nd, 2008 · 5 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, Roaming the blogosphere

So I’ve spent the morning trying to figure out what to write about. The kids behaved this morning. I volunteered at school without setting off any alarms. Grocery shopping was uneventful. I got nothin. So what does any good blogger do under those circumstances? She steals from someone else! Kidding. Seriously, that’s plagiarism. But what [...]

Great food and chaos for one and all

November 29th, 2008 · 10 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, Parenting

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We certainly did. The cast: Six adults, six kids (four of them under 7). The menu: Smoked turkey, chestnut stuffing, gravy, collard greens, and broccoli with homemade cheese sauce. For dessert: pumpkin and apple pies. (I made the pumpkin pie.) (Yay, me!) Charlie did his usual culinary magic. [...]

A hummingbird in need of rescue

November 23rd, 2008 · 6 Comments · My musings

The hummingbird feeder froze yesterday. In place of red sugar water, we looked out to cloudy pink sugar ice. It sparkled in the clear cold sunlight. A frozen feeder isn’t really a problem here in November. The summer hummers flew south weeks ago. (Guess we should take down the feeder, huh?) Oh, but over the [...]

An Evening with the Four — Er, Three — Horsemen

November 13th, 2008 · 7 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, Parenting

THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP! Three kids in swimsuits (in November?) round the corner from the hall into the living room. Abby, who turns 6 tomorrow, shouts to our expectant faces, “We’re playing ApocalypTH! Charlie and I share a glance that contains an entire conversation: “Do you know anything about this?” “Yes. Sadly, I do.” “Any ideas on the [...]

Grey ….. A Not-So-Wordless Wednesday

November 12th, 2008 · 12 Comments · My musings

My entry for Wordless Wednesday isn’t exactly wordless. Maybe I talk too much to participate in this meme. Oh well. Here in Georgia, the vibrant colors are fading. Leaves flutter down on the road as I drive, propelled by a near-constant breeze. The world is turning grey: sky, tree trunks, even the forest floor. This [...]

Welcome to Tweenland’s Two-for-One Tour!

November 10th, 2008 · 17 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, Parenting

My older kids turned 9 and 11 last month, so I suddenly find myself the mother of Tweens. And I’m finding it a bit, shall we say, challenging? I’ll tell you, it’s not all High School Musical and helping with harder homework. Noooooo, Tweenland is an adventure unlike anything I’d ever experienced. In fact, it’s [...]

Decison 2008 – It’s not what you think

November 4th, 2008 · 11 Comments · My musings, Parenting

Today is a momentous day, a day of crucial decisions. Choices that will affect the next four years — and possibly the rest of our lives. As members of a democratic society, we have the privilege and responsibility of participating in those decisions. And so, later this morning, I will head out to our local [...]
