sNOw (and YESkelele)

Hello from Crankytown. Where the sky spit flurries, the children complained bitterly, and the school district helpfully allowed parents to travel icy roads this morning to schools that were still OPEN.

I don’t know why I was so grumpy about the lack of real snow here. Even more puzzling: I was irritated with the county for keeping our schools open when EVERY district around us was closed because of icy roads.

I mean, if they HADN’T stayed open, I’d be sitting here complaining about bundling up three hyperactive kids to play on icy grass in wind that chilled the air into the single digits.

A pass on washing muddy snow clothes and making 13 cups of hot cocoa today SHOULD make me grateful.

Proof that happiness is a choice, I guess.

Anywho, I considered writing a Twitter HoDown post, but frankly, these past few weeks I’ve been Twitter Truant.

TWUANT, if you will.

(And I’m totally trademarking that word, so don’t even think about it.)

BTW, The Twitter HoDown is chock-full o’ nuts, so don’t miss it on my account.

I could blame my crankiness for the apparent randomness of the following video, but really.

We all know I don’t need an excuse to be random.

I just thought this was cool, and it made me smile:

I don’t like driving on icy roads either. You’d think I’d be used to it living in Chicago, but actually, the salt trucks come out to save the day pretty fast around here, so iciness is not the problem you’d think it is. Just cold and blinding snow…

And that’s all I have to say about that.

We have so much snow! It has been very cold. We’ve had temperatures of minus
20 with the wind chill. I feel like I’m in Alaska!
    Love you

I don’t know who that kid is, but when he’s ten I want him to be the lead guitar player in our praise band.
He seemed a little fuzzy with the lyrics (or perhaps that was just words in general), but I can sympathize- I once had a donut between worship services and half way through the second song service, my blood sugar tanked and the words all turned to little dots and just fell off the page… I’m sure I sounded a lot like this little guy for a couple of lines.
Thanks for warming up a chilly day with this post!

I couldn’t believe it when I asked the kids how they enjoyed their snow day on Friday and they said THEY DIDN’T GET ONE!! I understand that letdown feeling, because there’s something festive about a snow day, even when you’re the mom and you have to do all that extra laundry and make hot chocolate by the gallon. Chin up–winter isn’t over yet! :( :( :(
