Guest post AND a giveaway? Does this mean I’m a real blogger?

Illness update:

Hannah…

…does NOT have pinkeye. WOOOOOO! She has a scratch that’s healing on the surface of her eye (thankfully, NOT the cornea).

(No pinkeye means I get to send her to school today! After two days at home! And right before a 5-day weekend with all of the kids here! All day! Every day!)

I…

…am STILL getting sicker. And after begging for better drugs from the doctor’s office. In THREE separate phone calls. And being assured THREE TIMES that all prescriptions would be called in. The pharmacy somehow never got a fax or call from the doctor’s staff before the end of the workday.

Grr.

But I’m gonna try to have a better attitude today.

(And not just because you threw the “pastor card,” Jason. Although when I read your comment on yesterday’s post, I may or may not have flipped you off over the Internets. I admit to nothing.)

NO. I am gonna have a good attitude because I have two things to celebrate today:

First, I’m an official guest poster. On someone else’s blog. Yes, a real one! With readers and everything.

Second, I’m hosting a fun giveaway!

So you know what I’m gonna do now?

Tell you where to go.

(I’ve always wanted to do that.)

No really, here’s what you need to do:

1. Visit my Texas doppelganger, Katdish, for one of my favorite posts about my childhood dog and his talent for voodoo. And if you’re here FROM Katdish’s blog…

I’m sorry/You’re welcome. (That was to make you feel right at home.) If you liked my post there, you might want to check out my follow-up to the original here. And I hope you come back. According to my husband, I’m actually even more entertaining the more time you spend with me. Or was that more irritating….? They sound so much alike. Anywho…

2. Click on over to Slocum Media, the website of a talented and mostly self-taught artist who also had the privilege of attending college with me. (Admit it; you’re jealous.)

His name is Daniel Slocum, and his talent is in photography. He told me that he sees the world differently than most people do. And after seeing his work, I agree. The composition, texture, and flat-out beauty in his photographs is breathtaking. I mean, LOOK AT THIS:

Many MONTHS ago, Daniel generously offered to give away of one of his prints here. Clearly he was not yet aware of how flaky I can be. (Sorry again, Dan!) But I promise: one look at his work, and you’ll consider it worth the wait.

To enter to win a print, take a look at this page on Dan’s site. Decide which picture you like best. Then come back here and tell me about it in a comment. (And make sure you list your email address on the comment form.)

At 10 pm ET, I’ll close comments and use some kind of random number generator thingy – or, failing that, a 6-year-old drawing a number from a baseball hat – to choose a winner. I’ll announce it on the blog and contact the winner via email. Unless I forget. Or get distracted. Hey look! A chicken…

Kidding. I’ll staple a note to my forehead or something.

Now, since I’m writing this Tuesday night, I’m off to take cough medicine and get some sleep. I think today I’m gonna stakeout the doctor’s office when they open and refuse to leave without a prescription IN HAND.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

And pray for the doctor’s staff! Pneumonia makes me cranky.

Thanks for all the entries! Comments are now CLOSED and a winner will be announced Thursday.

Steph, so sorry you are still sick and I’m glad your girl doesn’t have pink eye. Regarding the giveaway: Whoohoo so glad I can help promote your site. For all of you that enter.. thank you for checking out my site. I also invite you to check out my photo blog. I update it every few weeks with new images or with “tear sheets” from magazines or other places that are using my photos in print. Best of luck to you!

By the looks of that picture, I shouldn’t get the “Easy Tiger – this is a 404…” but I did. And sleep finally beckons so let’s just say I like the picture of Dan. I’ll be back….

Note from Steph: SORRY! SICKO SCREWED UP THE LINKS! THEY’RE FIXED NOW!

This will be the first of at least 2 comments, because I’m not good with instructions with multiple disciplines. Sorry you’re sick and I hate the whole “we’ll call the pharmacy” thing. Grrr…
Okay, now what am I supposed to do? Oh yeah, go to that other website…I’ll be back

Okey. It really WAS hard to pick! Can’t wait to have a chance at Daniels work!
I think that I will have to choose A Brief Respite, the one that you show here…

    Thanks!!!

Steph, sorry you’re still so sick! Hope you get your drugs today. Glad Hannah is okay–and back in school! ;) And I choose “A Brief Respite”–love the photo AND the title. Abby, pick me! You know I’m your favorite piano teacher!

Love all the pictures! Oh, and sorry you are so sick. Guess my favorite is Majesty. My son, Jeff and his family are moving to the Olympia/Tumwater/Lacey area so this would be a great “housewarming gift”–hint, hint

I like the one you have posted.

  • 13 Annie K // Oct 14, 2009 at 9:59 am

Well dang…his pics are way better than mine. Maybe Daniel will visit my photo blog and give me a few pointers. (I’m so shameless).

Anything with the river…or mountains…just cause I live amongst this. But if I have to pick just one…it would be Salmon Run.

Hudson River. That picture left me speechless and wanting to look at it more. It moved me!

    Beautiful work, truly stunning.

New Life. Cause I’ve been jonesing for another little pinkeye-infested weekend-wrecker. Feel better soon!

Turnwater Falls. It was really hard to choose, but I love the perspective and the colors. I love his work!
