This

is Jack.
He’s four. And my adorable nephew.
He’s also allergic. To: milk, eggs, and nuts. Peanuts, specifically.
Because of the danger an ordinary daycare can present to him, my sister Suzy has perfected the Caregiver Spiel over the years.
The one in which she expresses the seriousness of Jack’s allergies and tells what to do in case of emergency.
In that context, the following makes perfect sense.
***
Jack, to the Sunday School teacher for his first time at the church they’re trying out:
“Okay. So here’s the thing: Peanuts mean DEATH. [dramatic pause] Just stab me with the Epi-Pen.”
Teacher: frozen smile, wide eyes. She turns to Suzy for … Confirmation? Help?
Suzy just shrugs and smiles.

Yup, kids just get it. You should hear my daughter tell people about her diabetes.

It’s good that he knows and can verbalize his condition.

LOL love the dramatic pause…ohhh he is adorable…and direct. And I loved the screened in porch. If we ever move back to VA I want one.

Cute and Smart. The look on the teacher’s face must have been priceless.
