I CAN’T BELIEVE I GOT MY EARS PIERCED!!!!

No, not ME.

That would be what Hannah has said to me at least 57 times in the last 24 hours. Make that 157 times.

Yes, my oldest daughter, at all of 9 1/2 years of age, has finally gotten holes in her head.

And I bet you think I must have a hole in MY head for taking MY crew to the mall. Into a crowded accessories store. Where they held Hannah down in a chair. And stabbed her in the earlobes with a modified stapler.

Amazingly, the holes actually ended up in her earlobes. And no adults or accessories were injured.

It helps that LC did NOT go with us, since 11yo boy + plethora of pink = boredom + embarrassment. Not a winning formula for a peaceful evening.

Also, the girls and I were joined my organized bud Casey, along with her daughter Mikayla, Hannah’s BFFFFFFF (pretty much since birth).

Mikayla held Hannah’s hand and tried to get her to visualize rooms filled with dancing, dangling earrings, just for HER.

Abby wandered the store, gathering silly hats and sunglasses to model for Hannah’s distraction.

After only a few minutes and very little whimpering, my almost-grown-up girl had two sparkly pink earrings and a HUGE smile.

Hannah (R) with her best friend & encourager, Mikayla

And she declared that all she wants for her birthday and Christmas is gift cards for Claire’s.

I like the sound of that….

Only 41 days until she gets to change earrings. Not that anyone’s counting.

(Okay, seriously? We just made a countdown calendar. It has lots of exclamation points on August 23.)

Also, just for the OFFICIAL record, here are Hannah’s comments on …

Tattoos:

“I bet tattooes hurt a LOT more than ear piercing or shots! I’ll never do that!”

Navel piercing:

“That’s WEIRD. I don’t ever want my belly button pierced.”

You think I can show her this post five years from now and influence her teenage wishes?

Yeah, me neither.

*sniff!* Her first holes in her head! Did she get them done one at a time or both together? My folks had them do both of mine at the same time because they knew that if I got one done, I wouldn’t let them do the other. My parents know me so well.

We got our daughter’s ears pierced when she was like 6 months old after the 5,000 time that someone caller her a girl while she was dressed in a pink dress. We left the place in the mall after getting the piercings on a lovely girl with a giant pumpkin head (seriously her head was HUGE) wearing a yellow dress and an elderly couple commented on how cute our little boy was?!?!?

At this point we just gave up. Our second daughter will get her ears pierced if and when she wants them.

As for the calendar, I was always told to leave them in weeks longer just to make sure, but I’m sure that will kill Hannah.

As for the tattoo, you can do what my dad did and say with a crazy look in your eyes that you’ll cut off all tattoos with a razor blade. Or with a naval piercing say you’ll tie a string around it and on the other end tie a door knob. Yeah. I totally believed him. You got to get the look just right.

If she likes them, and you do, that’s great.

As for me and my house, clip ons we shall wear…

This reminds me so much of my 10th birthday! All I wanted was to get my ears pierced and Mom said I had to wait until I was ten, so on my birthday we went to the mall with my best friend…
I lived for earrings and trips to Claire’s for about 3 years.

Maybe I should get something pierced for my 30th birthday??? :)

    @Helen- hahahaaha….

The look on Hannah’s face is priceless. She looks so proud of herself.

I had mine done at 7rs, and have told my girl that she can have them when she’s six. I just can’t handle Kinderdarden and ear piercing together.
