Jonesin’ for a Florida sunset

June 26th, 2009 · 15 Comments · Travel: Taking the crazy around the world

Hello!

Today we are traveling, on the road to the BEACH.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned my love for the BEACH.

But I heart the BEACH, I do.

After all, I spent ten years in San Diego. Three of them overlooking the ocean.

Of course, the Florida coast is not a lot like the beaches in Cali. As in,

The water temperature is closer to bathwater than iceberg. (GOOD)

Ten yards offshore, your feet can still reach the bottom. Because the water is at your knees. (GOOD)

Jellyfish. (BAD)

Teensy waves. (BAD, if I were a cool surfer chick. But for me, this is kinda GOOD.)

Heat and humidity 24/7. (BAD at noon. GOOD at 10 pm, when you don’t need a parka to go outside.)

So we’re staying at the beach. Just the five of us. In close quarters. I’ll have my computer and internet access, but will be online only sporadically.

But you’ll probably hear from me at least once or twice. Depending on how much blog material this trip yields.

(See: five people, close quarters. I’m betting on … A LOT.)

Enjoy your week!

When I get home, I’ll post a pic of me with my tan face. With the attractive mustache-like age spot that appeared when I hit 35.

(FYI: Just because you tan easily does NOT mean sunscreen should be limited to nose and cheekbones. I’m just sayin.)

At least you tan. I’m white and turn a darker shade of white, and then I become red.

Enjoy…I could use a trip to the beach right about now. Instead I’m headed to Wal Mart. Sigh.

    Have a great week!

May your encounters with jellyfish be few, and your moments of peace be many. Have fun!!!!

Have a wonderful time! I hear Bobthedog and Callie are planning a get together with their friends while you’re gone. They will leave you blog fodder, I’m sure. You tan away, friend, while I become a whiter shade of pale amongst the corn.

My neighbor, Argentina from Guatemala (or as my kids call her–”Tortilla”) is naturally very dark complected. So you bet I was surprised when I learned she got a horrible sunburn last week at the pool. Even with my darker skin I always wear some kind of sunscreen…I learned that lesson as a teen when I got my first sunburn. Poor Argentina though, she is in her fifties and just getting her first.

Bout those jellyfish. I dont like them and especially when they wash up on shore. We’ve got them on the Texas coastline as well.

Love the beach! But we don’t get too many around Indiana…except ponds and lakes and such…which are nice, but not the same.

Hope you have a good time!

You’re such a good friend that if you got stung by a jellyfish, I’d pee on you. If you had invited me, of course. Now who will pee on you?

We made it to the beach! Thank you for all the well-wishes.

Wendy, I think I’m grateful for your offer. Then again, it MIGHT be another reason why we didn’t invite you. ;)

We just got back from PC, Florida at 6 p.m. tonight. I think we left just in time. The jellyfish were taking OVER this morning. They hadn’t been around all week, so I’m hoping they’ll take off soon for your sake. What beach are you at?

p.s. I got stung 4 times. Nobody peed on me. I am okay with that.
