So in Beth‘s comment on yesterday’s post, she asked about Abby. You know, my third kid? Beth was wondering if I’d perhaps misplaced Abby since she wasn’t mentioned at all.
Hmmm.
Why DID I have no memory of any contribution by my kindergartener to our scintillating conversation in my SUV Wednesday afternoon?
After much deliberation (and by much, I mean less than a minute of), I concluded that this must be because…
a) Abby was in the way-back of the SUV, so even if she WAS talking, the shouting right next to my ear drowned her out. (Which means the chaos would have been even more extreme if she’d been added into the mix. YIKES.)
OR
b) As Beth suggested, I had perhaps forgotten Abby, and she’s been riding the bus since Wednesday.

I’ll let you come to your own conclusions. Just think of me as the Fox News of mommybloggers:
I report; you decide.
In the meantime, this whole internal debate reminded me of an old song by the Kingston Trio.
Their music was on the soundtrack of my childhood because my bio dad was a HUGE fan and played it ALL THE TIME.
(On vinyl, and then on eight-track. Kids in the audience, look up “ancient technology” on wikipedia.)
Anyway, all of their songs are ETCHED (deeply, as with an industrial-size awl) onto my memory.
(Perhaps leaving no room for new information? That would explain a lot.)
And this particular song is topped only by “Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dooley,” as the song most likely to be in my head when I wake up from a bad dream.
Check it out. Now I TOTALLY get why they were so popular, being that they were so HIP and all. (Good musicians, tho.)
Have a great weekend!
And would somebody please tweet me after school today and remind me to do a kid inventory (kidventory?)?

Is there a big empty spot there for a reason? Perhaps a missing video clip?

I don’t mind folk music. It’s not among my top three favorite forms of musical genre, but it doesn’t give me nightmares either.

So they use to only have 8 tracks on a CD? Were they way cheaper then?

I just can’t get past the incredibly bad posture of those guys. Shallow? perhaps…

I grew up on the Kingston Trio….
What a trip down memory lane you gave me today.
I can still hear my dad singing “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley”…. it was one of his favorites, a bitter/sweet memory for me today… my dad passed away 3 months ago.
Thank you for reminding me!

Really, I think that comment just stemmed from my irrational fear that I’ll forget to put a kid in the car one of these days and end up as the mom on news that everyone shakes their head at…

It’s not ok to lose a kid every now and again?
I thought that’s why we had more than one.

At least your’s weren’t running around outside nekkid like mine were today. Thank goodness we live in the country. Nearest neighbor on that side is through a couple hundred yards of forest.

OMG steph, I grew up on them too as well as the New Christy Minstrels, and several others but I also love the song Dont Give a Damn about a Greenback Dollar(spend it fast as I can)
Lord the cross country station wagon trips we made with them as our soundtrack…..few others were as well played.
Thanks for the memories

I forgot one of my kids somewhere once. Now I can’t remember which one.
I like the matching Beaver Cleaver outfits.

You put up the *best* videos. I still chuckle every time I remember the Tread Mill Choreography music video. Ha!
