Hog’s Head Update:
- I DID videotape the arrival of pig parts Saturday.
- Technically, Charlie brought home HALF a pig’s head. And four pig’s feet. And a bunch of “normal” meat.
- The inside of a pig’s head is … ICKY.
- No headcheese will be made until next month. (I know, AWWWWWWW!)
Yesterday I forced myself to go for a walk. It was late morning, sunny, the perfect temperature.
I didn’t WANT to walk; in fact, I’ve been kind of mopey the last few days. Very soon, Charlie’s leaving for the UK for two weeks. I already miss him. And of course am fighting dread about being left ALL ALONE with my well-behaved little angels.
(I couldn’t even TYPE that last part with a straight face.)
Anyway, back to my walk.
I grabbed my camera, tricked Callie so I could leave her in the house, and invited Bob along.
Here’s some of what I got to enjoy:

- Our yes-we-actually-planted-it veg garden

Wild strawberries along the driveway

- Pretty pretty clouds

- Happy Bob

You city folks might think the rushing sound is traffic noise. But it’s not. It’s the wind in the trees.
And I needed this yesterday. For that matter, I needed the reminder today.

My God, the source of the wind, creator of the birds and trees, is with me.
He will be with me while Charlie is gone, and I can trust in him.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Can I just tell you how happy I am to see pictures of pretty, pretty clouds….more like divinely GORGEOUS clouds on your blog instead of a sundry pig remains? This made me smile…even well up a little….because YES! Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Love this!

Its been nice taking the dog on walks lately. I’ve enjoyed the peace and quiet of walking with her without children. Today, my ventures will take me to a wooded walking trail near where I live.

Head cheese….I am SO glad that is a ‘southern’ thing (I think) and not a ‘northern’ thing. ICK!
There is something to be said for listening to the wind in the trees…..

Steph, yes, blessed be the name of the Lord.
I’d be pretty bummed out if I wouldn’t get to see Bob for two weeks, too. We become rather attached to our spouses, don’t we?
Annie, it is also a “Hungarian thing.” I will make sure you get to experience it.

I was a little afraid to click on the video… Wasn’t too sure I wouldn’t see the pigs head pop in at some point…
Sorry that you’re sad about hubby going away. Will you accept ice cream and the adoration of your fans as a consolation prize?

Head cheese sounds divine! Although I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole! My grandparents used to enjoy this delicacy (and I would run out of the room).
Enjoyed the soothing video. That is the only thing that kept from from clicking and running!

Which half of the pig’s head did you get? Right? Left? Top? Bottom? Does one half “do better” than the other?
I heart Bob.
And your strawberries.

Wow, looks like you live in the boonies. No wonder you don’t need blinds on your windows. I’m a little jealous.
Nice strawberry plant. I heart strawberries.
I didn’t realize they sold 1/2 a pig’s head. I learn something new everyday!
It’s nice to know we’re not alone, even when we’re alone.

Wendy, your comment made me laugh out loud! I so wish I’d thought of that. Now you’ll all be nervous and watching out for flying pig heads.
Candy – left side. Charlie told me that he would’ve gotten a whole head, but he didn’t have the proper tool to cut it in half. Then I told him no, he could NOT buy a bone saw.

A chain saw won’t work? I’ve seen it work in the movies. Might muck up the gears a bit, however. So he’s skipping the country and leaving you with a pig head in the freezer. I will have nightmares for you.
I trust he will bring you a lovely gift. Without ears or teeth.

When I was a little girl, I remember my mother making head cheese. I do not envy you.
My hubby travels a lot. I understand what it’s like and my heart is with you as Charlie goes out of town. Yes, I agree that he should bring you something special from the U.K. A Susan Boyle CD maybe?

Mmmmmm, wild strawberries. Yummy. But what exactly does one do with pig’s feet? Is that my inner city slicker/average American/picky eater coming out again?

Faemom, pig’s feet get boiled in a soup like concoction. The conconction cools. Meat is separated into the concoction, which is then gelled in the refrigerator for several hours. That is what Charlie means when he called HHC an aspic. In Hungarian and Polish we call it something else, but that’s okay. Aspic works in English.

Can we just stop with all the hog’s head cheese comments. LET. IT. GO! I’ve stop reading the follow up comments to your last post because, ewww, gross.
I was sort of along the same lines as Wendy watching that video. I was waiting nervously for a ninja squirrel to jump out and attack you, wrestling the camera to the ground, or at the very least hear some banjo music.

There’s nothing like a walk in the country to make you realize just how much you have in life that’s worth a smile and nice, gentle sigh.
