TO DO LIST FOR THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2009
DAY:
Go to kids’ school for “Hat Party” where kids get honored for all the reading they’ve done in a month.
Wonder how I’d feel about wearing a paper-thin plastic “construction” hat with reading stickers on it if I was 11.
Rejoice that I will never again be 11. Or 16 for that matter. Or 40.
Attend THREE different lunches at THREE different times with THREE different kids. Resist urge to eat THREE hot dogs and THREE brownies.
Return home after THREE hours at school.
Fidget. Until it’s time to leave for tonight’s “Off the Blogs” event in the city.
EVENING:
Arrive at “Off the Blogs.”
Wander around in crowd of Skittle-eating cool people, whimpering, until I hear a loud Texas accent alternating between laughing about Snuggies and ranting about prosperity gospel.
Run up to Katdish and glue self to her super-outgoing side.
Meet My Bloggy Hero, Mr. Jon Acuff of Stuff Christians Like. Say something intended to be clever but in reality quite lame. Sweat. A lot.
Loosen up and relax. Then have a great time connecting with like-minded people I’ve only ever met online. (This last one is dependent on God answering my prayer and hitting me over the head with the “it’s-not-all-about-me” stick.)

I hope the Skittles don’t come with yellow party hats. Or stickers.

SO jealous that you get to go to Off the Blogs. If I had any forethought, stamina, or reasoning power, I would have planned to go. Let us know how it is, and how Jon of SCL is really like. Enjoy the Skittles.

I don’t know what makes me more jealous, that you get to meet Katdish, or that Katdish gets to meet you. As far as I am concerned, Jon Acuff is running third behind to two of you. Love you both. Remember what my daddy said when you meet Jon—-the king is a big man, but he still can’t eat his cookies with a shovel!

I’ve got it! I am jealous of Jon Acuff for getting to meet the both of you! Dang him! Isn’t it enough that he gets a book deal? Does he have to go meeting you to first, too?

At least Helen and I can be jealous together. Except for the fact we’re apart. Grrrr. But I’m a little worried that if we did ALL get together at the same time….the universe would explode with the overabundance of sarcasm in one small area….or that all the conference food would quickly and mysteriously disappear and we’d end up with the conference staff chasing us through the hallways a la Scooby Doo.
Have fun and I know you will make FOTTSP proud! And don’t superglue yourself to Kathy. That might be painful for both of you.

Met Katdish. She’s just as obnoxious as you might expect. But she gave me my very own Snuggie!
We got our picture taken with the world-famous Jon Acuff! Side-hugging, no less. And he gave me SCL stickers!
