Am I the only mom who lets her kids wear just about anything they want (within reason) to school? I mean, I ask them to dress in unstained, seasonally-appropriate, modest, and dress-code-obeying clothes.
Do I really want to fight about minor issues like matching and correct shoe-to-outfit ratio? Especially since my girls’ current definition of “matching” involves the same color on every article of clothing (down to the panties)?
I don’t think so.
And that’s why Abby’s wearing this today.

She told me she’d wear the white tights “since I know you don’t like when I only wear one color.”
Um, okay.
***
Then she asked, “Do you think this makes me look goth?”
(Did I mention: SHE’S SIX?!)
Yeah, Sweetie. Totally goth.
(I don’t think I’ll tell her about the piercings, black lipstick and surly attitude that would complete the ensemble.)
***
One final note:
Pay no attention to the laundry room behind the person.
(That reminds me: I so need a curtain.)

I didn't even notice the laundry room…
Actually, I was thinking, "WHen did this kid sneak into MY laundry room for a photo?"
I'm with Helen, she resembles her Momma!
ALso, I was thinking "TOTAL GOTH" when I saw that outfit. WHat kinda' kids are you raisin' there in the Red Clay?
SHe's adorable and looks so sweet…for a Gothy.

Helen and Sherri- Thank you for telling me how cute she is AND how she resembles me. I'll take that compliment.
Sherri- Another reason to like you — you didn't even notice the laundry room. I don't notice that stuff on others' blogs, but I always wonder what people see when they get a look at my house.
And I have NO IDEA where she got the Goth thing. She had to ask the question 3-4 times because my brain couldn't compute that question coming out of that mouth. (She had the same problem with her daddy.) Probably Ben 10 on TV or something…

Awww… I think she looks cute! Although keep in mind that I wore a black dress and combat boots to my prom. My mom's favorite line with me in high school was…why don't you wear something with COLOR?!
My sister used to wear her pants backwards to school as a kid because she liked seeing the design on the back pockets.
My brother would pick out clothes with a teeny tiny spot of the same color on them and say they matched. Didn't matter if one was stripes and the other polka dots.
My kids aren't in school yet… it's gonna be interesting I'm sure…but to me, this is such a small issue. I'm going to hold tight to the more important ones.

She is darling, Steph!

Hmm….if it's a choice between princess-obsessed and Hannah Montana wanna-be…or "goth" (minus the black lipstick), I'm thinking goth all the way! She's a cutie-pie, no matter what color she's wearin'!

LOL Goth? Really? She's so young. I think you're right in keeping her in the dark about the other Goth-related things. She's precious and does have quite the fashion sense.

Yeah, she's a cutie! I didn't notice the laundry room in the background. But now that you mention it, just how many laundry baskets do you have anyway?

Beth- Well now you're worrying me.
I'm with you though. Clothes are just not that big a deal to me. Of course, I lived in jeans and tshirts as a kid. Hmm, now that I think about it, that's what I live in now. My girls already exceed me in fashion sense.
@ngie- Thank you. I'm fond of her too.
Jo- You know, my girls love princesses and Hannah Montana and Barbies. It doesn't bother me too much. Bratz? A little too skanky.
faemom- Yes, GOTH. Cracked me up. She doesn't remember where she heard it. But you gotta take into account- we're in the rural South. I don't think she's ever seen a real Goth.
katdish- Don't be dissin my laundry baskets. They're new and have brought me much joy. I'm gonna dedicate a post to them. Truly, they've given my life new meaning.

Maybe Katdish can make a nice little saying thingy to hand on the laundry room wall in honor of the new laundry baskets. And then you can take a picture of that adorable, yet goth youngster you have in your house. (ok, jk about the goth thing.)

Phew! I feel so much better about my own laundry room which is, incidentally, so much worse than yours with a puppy-pee-stained oriental rug lounging across three laundry baskets. Still, somehow I feel better.
Yes, have that same matching gene over here. Sort of like the clothes simply need to be in the same color *family* and it's copacetic to put them together. Sometimes one may end up resembling a zoo keeper.
Ah well…

i am thinking the match head to toe thing is the age….my kindergarten boy does the same and he has started freaking out if i offer to pick his clothes…
my 4 y.o on the other hand would be happy if all his clothes came in one color…preferably one that didnt clash with his "dirt" LOLOL

My six year old has a thing recently about looking "cool". She'll get dressed and then tell me that she picked out what she's wearing because she thought it looked "cool".
I didn't notice your laundry room either. I always end up taking pics in front of the microwave cart that is loaded down with oddball junk. It's such a nice backdrop.

Goth?!!! Ohmygosh, I would have such a hard time keeping a straight face if my daughter asked me that. Your little girl is so, so cute! What a priceless photo.

I've got something for you on my blog

[...] By the way, this is all Katdish’s fault. She’s been bugging me to tell her about the baskets in the background in this post. [...]
