Variations on a theme – LINKS

January 16th, 2009 · 12 Comments · My musings

Have you ever had this experience?

When you go to church and the pastor’s sermon makes you wonder if he’s been reading your diary?

And then you meet a friend for lunch and she tells you about a struggle she’s been having and it sounds totally familiar?

Soon after, your spouse or kid makes a comment that makes you all defensive and huffy.

Then you read a magazine article and feel a little twinge.

Around that time, I start thinking maybe somebody’s trying to tell me something.

I’m perceptive that way.

***

Did you know that the same thing can happen on the Internet? I didn’t. But take a look at these links and see if you discover a theme:

Jon at Stuff Christians Like

Helen at Random Musings

Megan at Fried Okra

Lisa at Take 90 West

(And no, I’m not going to tell you what the theme is. I think if I, the Queen of Denial, could figure it out, you’ll have no problem.)

Any comments?

Ok, I am going to click your links in a moment, but I just had to say that I think it is rather humorous to see that your amazon ad 'deal of the day' is a "cats [plural :-) ] litter box system". And it says "check out fast before we run out". funny.

Just in this last week I have been thinking about shaving off some of the fat so to speak in my blogging practices. I am interested to hear how these various posts along the same lines impacted you and see how their practicality plays out in your life.

If it helps, I've been having my own struggles in blogging and finally set myself up on a schedule. I cut out looking at my stats, started deciding when and how long I would do certain things and have been feeling so much better. If that helps . . .

Darn! I think I erased my comment but I'll just say again that I've been going through something similar so I think I kind of understand.

Ok, got your point. Those were some excellent blogs…really makes me think.

Sure sounds like God is speaking to the First Church of Blogging, doesn't it? Should I mention that the first Scripture in my devotions this morning was, Jonah 2:8, "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs." ?

I sat and pondered that. And prayed. Then I read your post today. And the links. Regardless of how this makes bloggers feel, I am EXCITED! How awesome is it that God chooses to speak to His Blogging Church this way? One of my most-often personal prayers is, "Lord, give me 'ears to hear,' and grace to obey. I am not willing to forfeit the grace that could be mine!

P.S. Your post, and the links you included, are a good confirmation of what I was feeling when I posted my New Years Prayer for Bloggers.

Sherri- A bit spooky, eh? (And thanks for the GREAT prize!)
@ngie- I'll have to post this week with my take on this stuff. I'd love to read your thoughts too.
Michelle- Thank you for your comment. (It didn't erase.) Yeah, I think structure and schedule is the key for me too. It helps me remember WHY I'm doing this.
Beth- Of course you were the inspiration for Helen's post. I love to see how we all apply it.
Fringegirl- Yeah. Sorry about that. ;) I myself prefer to exist in blissful ignorance.
Grace- I'm with you. Really fascinating to see how God is not limited by time or distance. (Duh. But still awe-inspiring. :)

Well, I'm glad you gals were convicted about it finally. Good luck with ALL OF THAT! (She types at 11:50 pm on a Monday night.) Nah, I spent a few minutes on the computer on Saturday, didn't even turn it on yesterday. I've gotta work tomorrow, so there's that. As an added bonus, I got to spend several uninterrupted hours with my kids. Bonus? Mucho blog fodder! (Don't you just hate it when people miss the point?)
