What do you get when you take one pickup truck with bed extender, add two futon mattresses and 12 blankets, and throw in ten people?

(Besides something wildly illegal in most states)
A Christmas tradition for us and two other families.
Every year we meet just outside the gate of Lake Lanier’s Magical Nights of Lights and pile everyone into the back of our pickup. Charlie drives and anyone who wants to stay out of the weather rides in cab with him. The rest of us get cozy in the back and enjoy the fantastic drive-through light show.
(At 10mph, so don’t freak out.)

December weather here can be unpredictable. Last year was COLD*.

Everyone dressed accordingly.

Tonight? It’s supposed to be in the high 60s.
And drizzly.
I think we’ll trade blankets for slickers.
***
At the end of the ride, the kids always get to ride the overpriced carnival rides.
And meet Santa.

I wonder if instead of s’mores this year, they’ll be selling snow cones…
*COLD by Southern standards. Don’t be a Hater.

Yeah, obviously illegal…but how much fun!!!! And, it’s just like a hayride, only you don’t have to smell horse poo or hay! I say…cool!

Goot times. Good, good times.
Never seen the lights at Lake Lanier (however I’ve been there!), but I have toured the ones at Calloway Gardens…those are fantastic!
I now want a snowcone. For real!

That does look wildly fun. And indeed, wildly illegal

Barry, a native Georgian and particpant in our annual Christmas light tradition, told me tonight that it’s not illegal to ride in the bed of a pickup truck in Georgia. Who knew?

Well there you go, folks. In Georgia, the home of Jeff Foxworthy, the movie Deliverance, and Michael Vick (previously), the ten of us in the back of the pickup were NOT breaking any laws.
Does this surprise anyone?
