UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Robin’s back in business! Go visit her to see all the other great poetry!
UPDATED FRIDAY EVENING: Poor Robin’s site has been down all day due to a dead computer.
So I’ve changed a couple permalinks in this post. And I guess we’ll just have to be patient until she gets it resolved. THANK YOU for all the great comments!
Today over at Pensieve, Robin is hosting her monthly poetry carnival.
And it’s a contest, so I’m all over that.
The theme is Christmas or winter. She said we could write a haiku or a pensieve, which she defined as:
A titled, five-line poem; each line correlates to one of the five senses–sight, sound, scent, taste, touch–and describes the subject (title). The goal is for the reader to take on the poem as his own, being able to “experience” your subject through your words, by seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling what you described.
(Robin, I totally think you made that up. But who am I to argue when a Build-A-Bear gift certificate is on the line?)
Presenting my ode to my new crush:
Fake Christmas Tree
You with your prelit and bendable branches,
No cussing accompanies your setup.
The husband misses the piney smell,
But the dogs prefer your plasticky flavor.
I don’t miss the sap or the crunchy needles.
Ta-Da! Robin herself will be choosing the winner. But if you flood her comment section with votes for me, I’m sure it’ll influence her!
Or you can just go see other Poetic License -s?

Steph, I’m west coast and it’s too early to try and figure out how to write a pensive haiku. I’m just going to vote for you.
(hey, that rhymed. I’m a poet and didn’t know it!) I slay myself sometimes.

Nice! I love poetry. I can’t say I ever tried to do a pensive haiku. Maybe I should try….

Awesome. I think you could’ve spread it with a snow shovel. Now if she ever gets her site up again, I’m SURE I’ll win.

That’s funny! We have a fake tree too, and my mom is quite happy with it as well.
