Weekend Drives – Or Getting Lost in Linkland

November 8th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, It's NOT all about me, Roaming the blogosphere

If I’ve made anything clear this week, it’s that my interests are pretty – um – unpredictable. Here is just a sampling of what I’ve found interesting over the past seven days. Join me on the journey. But keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Some links that stuck in my brain this week:

If your candidate didn’t win the election, here’s a wise educator and parent’s take on how to move forward. He said it so well that I have nothing to add: The Christian School Journal. (hat tip to We Are THAT Family for the link)

My friend Stonefox (aka Heidi) wrote from somewhere in Asia the other day about where she is in her spiritual journey. Her honesty and surrender are inspiring to me. Check it out: Moms, Ministry and More.

Another friend, Rachel in Arkansas, told a hilarious story about their Halloween. After reading it, I felt grateful for my comparatively boring life. Take a look: just another day in paradise.

I’ve written about Compassion International before. Their ministry brings hope to children and families in countries all over the world. For only $32 a month, anyone can meet the needs of one child, and by extension, his or her family. This child receives food, clothing, education, and hope. Our family has continually sponsored at least one child for over a decade, and it’s been a great opportunity to model unselfishness and giving to our children. Click the picture in my sidebar, and you can be a sponsor before the end of the day today.

If you need more evidence of the impact Compassion has on real families, then you’ll want to read  the entries of some real bloggers like me. This week, some bloggers got to visit Compassion’s ministry in the Dominican Republic. You can read all about their experience at CompassionBloggers.com.

And finally, because I am a child of the 80s and I want my MTV, I am like, totally stoked about this new site. When I was a teenager, I could watch MTV for hours on end. I can still picture my favorite videos in my head. (Fer sure. I’m serious as a heart attack.)

Of course, MTV doesn’t hardly do videos anymore. (Gag me with a spoon!)

But they’ve redeemed themselves by creating the site MTV Music. Click on it and you can watch any video you want ON DEMAND.

Can you imagine? I’m gonna watch Dire Straits and Weird Al and Pat Benatar and Huey Lewis and the News. Then I’ll put Michael Jackson’s Thriller on a continuous loop. So we can totally learn the choreography as a family and perform it for our friends.

Or put it on YouTube like these people did.

Because it would be SO TOTALLY RAD.

    I might actually have nightmares after watching that. Having the inmates do it was just a little creepy!

    @Stonefox,
    How bout the inmate playing the “girlfriend”? Some great costuming, hair, and acting there.

    Glad I could make your sleep time interesting. ;)
