FRIDAY, FRIDAY, FRIDAY! It’s…
If you read me regularly, you’ve probably come to expect the usual inane and ridiculous observations about my journey as a mom, country dweller, embarrassing world traveler, and word nerd.
If that’s all you want to see, you might want to skip tomorrow’s post.
Cuz I’m gettin’ all LITERARY on y’all.
Blame Robin at Pensieve. When I came across her monthly Poetic License, the word nerd in me was drawn, nay wrenched, into the vortex of rhythm and rhyme.
Side Note to Robin,
Maybe you should create a Pensieve’s Poetry Slam. We could all post videos of ourselves reciting (pref. by shouting or rapping) our poems. Extra points awarded for beat-boxing and dancing. You could call it “So You Think You Can SLAM!”
Heck, if you don’t use that idea, I might.
Holla!
(I’ve always wanted to say that. Along with, “That’s just how I roll.”)
Ahem. Anyway, blame Robin. Cuz she decided that with this month’s theme of Masks, the poetry style would be the English sonnet. Oh yes, she did go there.
For those who aren’t versed in Shakespeare’s preferred -um- verse (like me before this week):
An English sonnet has 14 lines, with a rhyme sequence of AB AB CD CD EF EF GG. Preferably in iambic pentameter (in a nutshell that’s 10 syllables, stressed alternately). Did your head just explode? If not, you can always click the links to continue the torture.
Y’all. I had to draw myself a flow chart to figure this thing out.
But have no fear, I did produce a pretty, nay spectacular sonnet that I shall introduce on Friday.
Cuz that’s just how I roll. (Snort.) Come back tomorrow for my deep and serious literary leanings.
Or don’t. In that case, See you Saturday!

I will be reading your spectacle. Sounds interesting. I did not know the technical stuff behind an English sonnet. The challenge is alluring.
Oh, I read your email too… I will be getting back to you soon.

I SO have a crush on you right now! I tried to link to this from your tweet earlier (this morning? last night? I can’t even remember now) but I just got your light blue background and figured something was screwy in WP.
Anyhoo, ooooh how you’ve built anticipation! You’re the second person I know who’s well into the throes of English Sonnet and I’m feeling the pressure…I HAVEN’T EVEN BEGUN MINE YET! INSPIRATION, WHEREFORE ART THOU???
Ok…I gotta write two posts right now–can I go from a pee post to a Compassion post back to wettin’ my britches?
Time will tell…;)

@Angie, don’t worry — it will be SPECTACULAR. Or at least it’ll have the right number of lines and syllables. I’m detail-conscious like that.
@Robin, You have a crush on me? Then now my love is reciprocated! So when do you wanna start our new “So you think you can SLAM” competition?
I’ll let you rap about pee if you want.

You transported me back to my college classroom this morning and I haven’t had enough coffee yet to keep up.
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s post.

Wow…I can’t wait…’cause I’m not a poet. And I do know it.
See?
