Decison 2008 – It’s not what you think

November 4th, 2008 · 11 Comments · My musings, Parenting

Today is a momentous day, a day of crucial decisions. Choices that will affect the next four years — and possibly the rest of our lives.

As members of a democratic society, we have the privilege and responsibility of participating in those decisions.

And so, later this morning, I will head out to our local polling place: a little country church. And I’ll stand in line for as long as it takes, and then I’ll cast my vote.

Then this afternoon and evening, like many Americans, I’ll watch the media coverage and the exit polls and speculate about how everything will play out.

I might go to bed without knowing the results, since I’m not much of a night person. But that’ll be okay. The outcomes of this election will be apparent soon enough.

But you might be surprised to find that for me, the election is NOT what makes today momentous. Don’t get me wrong, I do think it’s my moral obligation to vote. And I certainly “have a dog in this hunt.”

(Me and Dr. Phil, we’re like THAT.)

But I can’t really get too worked up about the whole thing.

Because the decisions made at the polls are not really that important – in light of one decision that I got to witness at 6:45 this morning.

My baby, my almost-6-year-old, came to me after a bad dream. She’d dreamt that someone was trying to steal her soul. (I know, scary.)

Of course, I hugged and prayed with her. I told her that Jesus was protecting her soul. This calmed her quite a bit.

Then I said that Jesus had offered to protect her even more by coming and living in her soul.

“Then Momma, I think maybe we should ask Jesus to come in my soul.”

So we did.

And I know that God our Father’s heart was filled with joy.

Because Abby’s Momma’s heart was.

PS The Kingdom of God is far greater than any kingdom here on earth. No matter who is elected and what legislation is passed, God will not cease to be God. And we should not stop praying for and supporting our leaders. Amen.

Oh my gosh!!! Congratulations!!! Once the Holy Spirit inhabits the soul nothing can come in and replace it. I hope she knows she’s safe :)

Congrats!! I am always amazed at how precious children are and how much they truly trust in their heavenly father. I was nervous when my 3 year old wanted to ask Jesus to live in his heart yet one year later I see him living in him each and every day!!

This is much more important than the election.

How awesome! What an amazing opportunity from God to show Eternal perspective on a day where Temporal decisions will be made.
Thanks for the big picture reminder!

I’m so thankful for all of your comments. I can tell a difference in Abby already. Less fear, more interest in learning about this God who saved her.

She was my most resistant to the gospel, probably because she’s the least willing to surrender. I’d been waiting to see what God would use to reach her.

Cool that he used that dream. AND that he used it on Election Morning, as I sat on the couch trying to figure out what to post.

I think it gave us all a reminder of what’s REALLY important. :)

What a privilege to lead her to Christ, to dwell in His house forever.
