Paging Dr. Killjoy…

October 6th, 2008 · 10 Comments · Humor: You're laughing WITH me, right?, Marriage: So sappy together..., Parenting

This afternoon the kids and I drive the hour-and-a-half to the airport to get Charlie! He’s in the air over the Atlantic at this very moment, and not getting home a moment too soon.

I totally can’t wait to see him. Of course, if he wasn’t coming home, I could spend the day in bed like I did all weekend.

(I was SICK, alright?)

So there are definitely some pros and cons to welcoming my spouse home after a long absence.

Nighttime:

Good: Charlie’s side of the bed will contain him again.

Bad: I’ll have to make room for him by moving my laptop, my planner, my current reading book, three magazines, the TV remote, and all the clothes I wore over the last twelve days.

Housekeeping:

Good: Ummm… Sorry. I got nothin.

Bad: I have to do it again.

TV Watching:

Good: Somebody to handicap House Hunters with. (“Obviously, they’ll pick #1.” “You’re crazy; they’re totally buying #3.”)

Also: An excuse to watch football (since I can’t admit I’m a fan).

Bad: Goodbye, Mr. Remote Control.

Cooking:

Good: We get to eat meals that aren’t from the freezer or cupboard.

Bad: I have to shop again.

Parenting:

Good: No more “I hate you! I wish Daddy were here!”

Bad: The Consistency Police (aka Dr. Killjoy) is back on duty.

I think I’ll still welcome him home, if for no other reason than that I get to hear, “I wish Momma was helping me/doing bedtime/fixing fish sticks!” After twelve days on my own, I look forward to sharing the blame for my kids’ misfortunes.

um, we have to do housework when they’re home? I KNEW I was doing something wrong! So glad he’s going to be home. Are you feeling better?

yeah, I’m still not the best housekeeper when he IS home, but after two weeks of not doing ANYTHING, I just spent the past hour flying thru every room (okay, every room but the kids’) vacuuming, dusting, cleaning toilets, etc.

I am totally pooped. And I am feeling better today, but all that work made me notice my fever again. I’m gonna go lay down. :)

LOL….glad he is coming home for ya today. C has been gone since June and is hoping to be home w/ in the next 2 weeks. I am sooooo ready. Not that he will be here long likely just a week or so and then on to another job, but this one is going to be a lot closer to the house… We havent seen him since Aug 15.
Being a semi single parent sucks, but I wouldnt trade him for the world and I know how hard it can be.

I am the one who has to travel abroad every now and then… sleeping in a big, empty hotel room doesn’t feel convinient, just sad and lonely :( I want to be the one who stays!
Anyway, I just found your blog and just wanted to say hi!

Hopefully the kids will tell him how much they missed him and how much fun they had with you. Another good thing, they’ll probably want to spend a lot of time with him, so maybe you could go out and do something with your friends and relax.

Faemom, I like the way you think! I should get at least a coffee or maybe a massage out of this! :)

I loved reading this. I think I make a list just like this about everyday as it gets closer and closer to my husband coming home. Such mixed emotions!
