Say hai to haiku

September 11th, 2008 · 5 Comments · Bringin the crazy

Today feels like a haiku day. Of course, I’m not sure what a haiku day is. It’s just that it’s rainy and I’m grumpy and for some reason short, sarcastic stuff is really easy to write…

Do you think I might turn into Rosie O’Donnell?

I hope not.

BTW, Haiku is a poem of 17 syllables long, on three lines, with this rhythm: 5-7-5.

Here you go. Presenting a sampler of haikus. May my philosophical ponderings speak to you…

Mommy Haiku

1.
It’s laundry morning
Can’t procrastinate again
Wish I had a maid

2.
All out of t-shirts
What did my son do with them?
Buried in covers

3.
Hey, get back in here
You’re not allowed to quit yet
Piano practice

4.
Don’t throw things indoors
There’s breakable stuff in here
You’re paying for that

5.
Fifth tantrum today
Please do something with your child
I’ll be at the mall

C’mon, join me. Try your hand at haiku to describe YOUR day. Can’t be any worse than mine…

Okay, I’m willing to look like a fool.

    It’s just 5:15
I’m going to drag my butt up
    The gym is waiting

    It’s still dark outside
It’s the middle of the night
    let me stay in bed

    I hear Pat’s car horn
Would you just shoot me now please
    Okay I’m coming

    1.
    Driving in the dark
I surely have lost my mind
    Let me outta here

    2.
    The treadmill awaits
You can’t make me walk on it
    I give up this time

    3.
    Hey I feel better!
Is my bulge and flab all gone?
    time for a nice nap

    4.
    Avoid getting old
I promise you will hate it
    How did it happen?

    5.
    You’ll turn around twice
and wonder where your youth went
    It happened to me.

    Mom,
Those are REALLY good! Seriously, you created some great haikus. Now if we could just find someone to pay us for haiku…

I am NOT that talented. Or that patient. But I enjoyed yours and Mom’s!

I’ll try to finish what I started to type. Well, thanks sweetums. It was kind of fun. I have to get up at 5:15 again tomorrow so I think I’ll go to bed.
